October 2010 Breakdown

It's the end of another month (or the beginning of a new one), which means it's time for me to break down where my swag bucks came from.

For October's chart, you might have noticed that there were lots of Special Offers during the first half of the month, but barely any in the 2nd half. Well, that was due to SBTV being released, which is a nice, guaranteed way to earn some easy swag bucks.

While it may seem time consuming, you don't have to earn everything all at 1 time of the day. Spread your searches and SBTV views out over the span of the whole day. You'll still earn the same, without trying to cram everything into a small time frame. Also, don't forget to do your dailies and check the special offers for any videos. Every little bit helps and can really add up over a week/month.

The best tip I can give is to make sure you READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY! Skimming through the information makes it much more likely that you'll miss something important, making it a LOT harder for you to find the code(s).

There are two (yes, TWO) new features. First, I'll start with the "My Friends" section of your account. You can get to it by either clicking the "View Account" on the main page:

Once there, you will see your friends (starting with TSG). You will also see any friend requests that have been sent to you, by other people:

You can either Accept or Ignore those friend requests. If you would like to send friend requests to others, you'll want to start off by clicking "Find Friends":

Now that you have some friends, let's take a look at the next new feature. Take a look at the navigation bar at the top of your main SwagBucks page. Notice a new little icon?

This is your new "Inbox". You can send and receive messages to your friends, right from SwagBucks! The icon will show a notification if you have any new messages:

Just click on the icon and you'll be taken to your Inbox and any new messages you have. Once there, you can click on a message to open it:

What's the point of having friends and sending messages? Well, for sending messages, you can keep in touch with friends, encourage referrals to stay active and I'm sure TSG might find a way to drop a code with this feature too. As far as adding friends, I'm not sure what TSG has planned, but it seems he hinted that adding your friends could come in handy in the future:

Big SwagBucks News - Update

Yesterday, we were given some news about features that were coming soon to SwagBucks. With a little additional info posted today, I thought I'd keep you in the loop.

For starters, the double bucks from the daily activities isn't permanent. You will only get double swag bucks for the daily activities (Toolbar, NOSOs, Daily Poll and Trusted Surveys visit) through the end of the day on Tuesday, October 19th.

In addition to the double bucks, there are FOUR Special Edition Collector's Swag Bucks that are available for you to Search, Win and Collect. If you haven't seen the post on SwagBucks Blog yet, you can do so by clicking here.

Here is a look at the four Special Edition Bucks, which you can only get by SEARCHING and winning them:

These swag buck bills are not only fun to collect, but if you collect all four by 11:59pm PDT on Monday, October 18th, you'll receive a 100 swag buck bonus!

You may ask, "How do I collect them?" The ONLY thing you need to do, is search and win. If you win one of the special edition swag bucks, your account will keep track of it automatically, that's it! Big SwagBucks News - Just The Start

If you have been keeping up with the SwagBucks Blog, you knew that today at 12pm PDT, TSG would release a post with some BIG news about upcoming features on SwagBucks. A few of the features have been posted about (with more to come) and I wanted to give you a better look at them.

If you haven't seen the SwagBucks blog post yet, you can do so by clicking here.

First, TSG mentioned that starting tomorrow (October 12th, 2010), we would start getting double swag bucks for our daily activities, which includes a daily visit to the Toolbar, Trusted Surveys, NOSOs (No Obligation Special Offers) and answering the Daily Poll. Instead of getting 1 swag buck for each daily activity (4 total per day), we will now get 2 swag bucks per activity (8 total per day).

Now, I know you think this isn't much and the daily activities might not even be worth it, but every little bit helps. If you get the 8 daily swag bucks every day for a whole month (I'll use 30 days as an example), you'd get an extra 240 swag bucks per month! That is over half way to one $5 Amazon gift card, just by doing the daily activities.

Apparently the double bucks is only good through the end of Tuesday, October 19th.

Next, TSG talked about a very cool and FUN new referral tool, which will make your referrals LOL and promote your referral link at the same time. No one is really sure what craziness this could turn out to be, but it is reported to be coming VERY soon. Keep your eyes out for this one and I'll post about it as soon as I get more info.

TSG also dropped news on a big feature, SwagBucks Videos! This feature is almost ready to be released and already seems to be the favorite among Swaggernauts. The concept is simple...Watch a video --> Earn swag bucks!

The big question is this - Will this feature turn out more like the videos in the Special Offers section, or will it turn out like the "L" site (which I'd rather not mention). What's the difference? The videos in the Special Offers section varied when it came to the amount of the reward and were almost always pretty short in duration. As for the "L" site, all videos gave the same reward, but some had 3 minute advertisements for a 30 second video, while others had durations above 14 and 16 minutes, I sh*t you not.

Finally, TSG hinted at the return of limited edition swag bucks (it is unsure if they will have the same look or will sport something new) and possibly the most anticipated feature in the history of SwagBucks. I have an idea as to what the biggest feature is, but I'll let your minds run with ideas for now.

September 2010 Breakdown

It's the end of another month (or the beginning of a new one), which means it's time for me to break down where my swag bucks came from.

Note: This does not include any referral earnings. This is only what I have personally earned.

Now, I know what you're initially thinking...It's either "Wow, you sucked this past month" or it's "What the hell?"

For starters, yes, I know my chart looks all messed up. That was due to 1 special offer, which credited for 510 swag bucks on September 7th. So, because that throws off how the chart looks, I've added minor grid lines, which represent markers of 20 swag bucks.

As you can see, special offers pretty much dominated this month. With the exception of September 7th and September 30th, almost all of the special offer swag bucks I earned, were from videos. The key is to check the special offer slider on the main SwagBucks page and every special offer wall, every day. Most videos were between 1 and 6 swag bucks each, but there were multiple videos per day.

A tip: Do NOT filter the special offers by FREE. Leave the walls to display ALL of the special offers. Some walls don't consider watching videos as "FREE" and sometimes the videos weren't even under the video section of the wall. If you only want to watch videos, a simple trick is to look at the reward amounts of the offers and only stop to see what the special offer is, if the total is under 10 swag bucks. I haven't seen a video worth over 6 swag bucks, so your best bet is to only look at the offers under 10 swag bucks. This will allow you to check each wall, every day, in a short amount of time.

Remember, videos may not be worth a lot, but a few of them per day, over a whole month can really add up!

Code Box Messages - What They Mean

For some SwagBucks newbies, figuring out how to get and find codes is one of the hardest things to learn. For others, just trying to enter a code can be just as frustrating. Hopefully, this post can help you sort some of those code box messages out and help you enter codes correctly.

For starters, this is your main code box:

When you enter a code correctly, you will see this message (the number of swag bucks will be different, depending on the code):

Many people will try to enter a code while it is still active, but may come across this message:

There could be a few reasons why you are seeing this message. Most likely, the problem would be that there is an extra space either before or after the code when you entered it. If you copy/paste codes like me, ALWAYS check for extra spaces before or after the code, or the code will not enter correctly. Here are some examples of extra spaces:

How can you tell if the above code is entered correctly? Try looking at your blinking cursor:

Correct:

Notice how the cursor is right up against the back of the "e" (above). This tells you that there is no extra space at the end of this code.

Incorrect:

But, in this example, notice the cursor is away from the "e". This code has an extra space in it and is NOT correct. You would not get swag bucks for entering the code this way.

Correct:

Don't forget to check the front of the code for spaces too. The cursor is right in front of the "T", letting you know there is not an extra space before the code.

Incorrect:

The cursor is slightly away from the "T", letting you know there is an extra space before the code. You would NOT get swag bucks for entering the code this way.

Don't forget, codes are CaSe seNsiTivE. That means if the code is "ThisCode", then entering "thiscode" in all lowercase or "THISCODE" in all caps will NOT work. The letters in CAPS must stay in CAPS and the lowercase letters must stay lowercase.

What if you entered the code and came across this message:

This means you've already entered the code correctly and received swag bucks for it. You might come across this message if you tried to enter the code, but came across an error. Even though you never saw the message that you got your swag bucks, the code still went through.

You may occasionally come across this message when trying to enter a code:

This is telling you that the code you are entering can not be used on SwagBucks.com. This code can only be entered on a partner Search & Win site. The location where you found the code will almost always tell you which partner site the code is good on. To access the code box on a partner site, just click the "My Account" button at the top of that site's main page.

One other message people often see is this:

This message will only show up if you entered the code correctly, but after it expired. Many people still screw up the time zones and complain that the code ended early.

ALL CODE EXPIRE TIMES ARE IN THE PACIFIC TIME ZONE

Make sure you have your times correctly figured out, so you know when a code expires. A code that expires at 1pm PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) will expire at 4pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). Many people do not have the correct time conversion for their timezone. If you are unsure as to what time, check out this TimeAndDate.com page to see what time it currently is where TSG is located. Just look in the box and you can see how much time you have left before the code expires:

Note that the time will change on November 7th (because daylight savings time will end) and you will need to use this page instead.

You can also just check my blog's sidebar. I have a countdown set up so that it will display the time you have left to get the code, no matter what timezone you are in. You can find it in the "Code Checklist" box at the top of the sidebar:

For those Swaggernauts who may be new, I'm sure you've seen the Birthday Swag Bucks option before.

For those who have been on SwagBucks for a longer period of time, yes, I am aware that this feature has been around for a while.

So, why am I posting about this now?

Well, this is the 1st time that my b-day has rolled around since this feature was introduced. That means I can finally post about it properly.

To start, if you are new to SwagBucks, you may see this box at the top of your main page on SwagBucks.com:

All you need to do is enter your birthday and click "Submit". When your birthday finally rolls around, you'll get a nice e-mail from SwagBucks, with a little gift of 50 swag bucks:

If you happen to make a mistake when entering your birthday, you can always change it in your profile, under the Account Details section.

But before you think you can change your birth date and keep getting 50 swag bucks, know that there is a system in place to keep that from happening. Let's say your birthday is September 9th and you enter it into the birthday box. When tomorrow comes, you will get your 50 swag bucks. The next time you will be able to get any birthday bucks is 1 year from the last time you got them, even if you change your birthday in your profile. So, if you get your 50 swag bucks on September 9th (2010), then change it in your account details to September 10th, you would have to wait until September 10th (2011) if you left the date that way. What if you changed it to February 23rd? You'd have to wait even longer, which would be February 23rd (2012) (because on February 23rd, 2011, it wouldn't have been 1 year since you last got them on September 9th, 2010).

The point is, set your real birthday and let it go. That will be the shortest waiting time for you to get your birthday bucks again.

I wish you a happy belated birthday if I've missed it, or a happy early birthday if you haven't had it yet. Enjoy those birthday bucks - and this time, it IS ok to spend them all in 1 place!

Spread The Love

One thing I've always said about referrals is this...It's not the number of referrals you have that matters. It's the number of ACTIVE referrals that really counts. I've also mentioned that a good way to increase the chances of a referral being active, is by providing them as much information as possible.

The example story I give to some people is this:

There are 2 companies (Company A and Company B), both of which want to give you a flying car, completely FREE, but you can only choose 1 of them. Company A hands you the keys and that's it. They don't show you how it works, they don't give you any contact info if you have questions or problems, nothing. Company B offers to teach you how to fly the car, shows you how everything works, tells you who to call if you have any questions, gives you the address of the repair shop and tells you that they would be happy to fix your car if anything should ever go wrong, all of this is included with the car for free.

Which company would you choose?

Most people would say Company B. You would also be more likely to go to Company B in the future when you wanted to buy a new car. Well, this works the same way when it comes to referrals.

If you just stick your referral link out there and say "Join Here!", you might get referrals, but how many of them would really be active and STAY active.

However, if you tell someone about SwagBucks, offer to help them through the sign-up process, explain how the site works (searching, codes, special offers, etc.) and offer to help them or answer any questions they may have, they are MUCH more likely to use and stay active on SwagBucks.

This works VERY well if it is someone who can come to your house, or you are able to go visit them at their house. If you can be next to the person when referring them, you can help them sign up (and make sure they are using the correct referral link). You can also physically show them how searching works and help with their excitement when they get their first search win. You can show them where other parts of the site are or the extra places to find SwagBucks (like FB or Twitter). The more they know, the more likely they are to stick with it and stay active.

I've shared all of this above, to get to this main thought. Use the resources that are out there to help you explain SwagBucks to friends, family or possible referrals.

Two easy ways to do that is to send them here to this blog, or share this blog with others.

If you pick up a lot of referrals from posting your search wins on FB, why not click the "Share" button at the bottom of a code breakdown and show those new or potential referrals just how Swag Codes work. Maybe SwagBucks brings out a new feature and some of your referrals (or followers on Twitter) don't quite understand how it works. I will most likely have a post about it, explaining things in more detail, which you can easily tweet whenever you would like.

My blog isn't just here for you. It's also here to help your referrals understand how things work, so they will stay active on SwagBucks.

I love helping everyone when it comes to SwagBucks. So, why not spread that love and use it to your advantage? I did put those "Share" buttons there for a reason :)

August 2010 Breakdown

It's the end of another month (or the beginning of a new one), which means it's time for me to break down where my swag bucks came from.

Note: This does not include any referral earnings. This is only what I have personally earned.

As you can see, I have my good days and bad days, just like anyone else. However, there are 2 things you should take notice of.

First, you might see a lot of green on the chart, which means I got a lot of special offer swag bucks. However, these didn't come from filling out offers, signing up for free trials or even giving out any personal information. All of the special offer swag bucks I earned came from either videos, or "click-throughs". Make sure to check the special offer section on the SwagBucks main page AND each of the walls EVERY DAY. Almost every day, there would be a few videos you could watch for easy swag bucks. As for the "click-throughs", all those required was for you to click on the offer, then click on a link or 2 on the new page that opened up. Both of them were easy swag bucks and they really added up.

Second, on 8-24-10, you'll notice the large teal bar, which indicated surveys. I know it is hard for some people to get, or even qualify for surveys (I am the same way). But, if you check back a few times each day and at least TRY to qualify, you may end up getting 1 or more to finish and credit. You won't know if you don't at least try. As you can see, I only got surveys (two, for 50 swag bucks each) on 1 day out of the whole month. But, that was enough to make it my biggest earning day in all of August! So, while you may only qualify for 1 in 100 surveys, that 1 that you actually get could earn you some big bucks.

So, even if you don't think 2 swag bucks for watching a video is worth it, just remember that it really adds up over time. Also, if you don't think you'll ever qualify for a survey, you won't know if you don't try.
